August 28 – September 5: The 7th Festival of Jewish Culture I.B. SINGER’S WARSAW

For the 7th time the Jewish Theater is a co-organizer of the festival I.B. SINGER’S WARSAW, the event created and organized by the Shalom Foundation. During this year’s festival the theater will twice present the musical Fiddler on the Roof. We also invite you to the show Elderly Gentlemen – Wow! directed by Jan Szurmiej, the monodrama Song of Songs directed by Maciej Wojtyszko, a read-through of Alice of a Primer directed by Agnieszka Glinska and other festival attractions – shows, concerts, workshops and literary meetings.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF – in August

On August 27 at 6:00 PM and August 28 at 7:00 PM we are playing Fiddler on the Roof. That world famous musical, produced in our theater on a large scale, attracts with its captivating music, songs and dances performed by our actors. Come on see the show!

 

Guest performance by our theater in Paris

On June 15, during the 6th Festival of Jewish Cultures in Paris, our theater gave a guest performance of the show Bonjour Monsieur Chagall at the Theater Dejazet. The performance was seen by over 800 spectators, who gave the artists a standing ovation. Mr. Jo Omar, Artistic Director of the Festival, praised the high artistic level of the show.

Summer vacation break

Please be informed that the theater is taking a summer vacation break from June 7 through September 30.

During the break our theater is scheduled to give the following guest performances:
June 15 – The 6th Festival of Jewish Cultures in Paris, with the show Bonjour Monsieur Chagall (Theater Dejazet, 8:00 PM)
August 18 – The Jan Kiepura European Festival in Krynica, with the show Half joking, half seriously (Main Pump Room, 8:00 PM)
Moreover, the theater will be performing during the 7th Festival of Jewish Culture “I.B. Singer’s Warsaw” (Aug. 28 through Sept.5) being also a co-organizer of the event (the program of the festival will be available at www.shalom.org.pl)

House Management Office and Box Office reopen at the beginning of August.

 

March 27 – World Theater Day

We invite all theater lovers and supporters to celebrate on Saturday, March 27 between 2:00 and 9:00 PM. The program of celebrations includes among others: Jewish dance and song workshop, a lesson of Yiddish in a funny way, visiting the theater’s backstage.

Decoration awarding ceremony

On December 7, 2009 the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bogdan Zdrojewski, decorated the artists of our theater with the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis. The medals were awarded on October 2, 2009.
The Gold Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis was presented to Golda Tencer, the Silver Medal to Henryk Rajfer and the Bronze Medals to Jerzy Walczak and Marek Węglarski.

New Year's Eve Night - HALF JOKING, HALF SERIOUSLY

This night will be full of surprises! You will have a great time enjoying plenty of songs and dance, revue and cabaret hits, jokes and anecdotes.

During the intermission refreshments will be served including traditional dishes of the Polish and Jewish cuisine and a glass of wine.

Medals and decorations for our artists

Golda Tencer, Henryk Rajfer, Jerzy Walczak and Marek Weglarski have been awarded the Medal for Merit to Culture - Gloria Artis, whereas Ewa Dabrowska, Joanna Przybylowska, Alina Swidowska, Barbara Szeliga, Ernestyna Winnicka and Teresa Wronska have been honored with the Decoration for Merit to Polish Culture.

 

 

The 40th anniversary of Szymon Szurmiej's office of Managing and Artistic Director.

In September 1969 Szymon Szurmiej was appointed Director of the Jewish Theater. He has been continuously performing this function ever since. On the occasion of his jubilee he has received congratulatory letters from public authorities and representatives of various artistic milieux.
