Following his outstanding production of "Yentl," Robert Talarczyk once again returns to the Jewish Theatre and the prose of Nobel Prize winner Isaac Bashevis Singer, this time celebrating the theatre's 75th anniversary with a production of "Heritage," based on the novels "The Manor" and "The Legacy," written in the second half of the 1960s. They represent a family saga, set from the end of the January Uprising to the beginning of the 20th century. Both of Singer's novels have been dubbed Jewish "Nights and Days" in Poland, and some have compared the plot to Andrzej Wajda and Edward Kłosiński's series "As Years Go By, As Days Go By...". Isaac Bashevis Singer captured a contemporary theme for his generation: abandoning Jewish tradition and culture, abandoning Judaism and Orthodoxy (he himself came from a traditional home), choosing assimilation, and embracing the European, modern side. The heated backdrop of Polish history and European trends determines the decisions of Kalman Jakobi's family. Although torn between tradition and successful business management, he tries to understand what it means to be a Jew "today." His world is crumbling, and he, despite the life choices of his loved ones and his surroundings, strives to stand for values that almost everyone considers a thing of the past. Singer's question proves surprisingly relevant: What does it mean to be a Jew today? In a world that is once again shaking to its foundations, and what is familiar within it is becoming a thing of the past or is being called into question. In a world that must be rebuilt.

The theatrical script for "Heritage," based on the unrealized series by Krzysztof Teodor Toeplitz (co-author of "Forty-Year-Old") and Singer's novel, was co-written by Remigiusz Grzela and Robert Talarczyk.

Robert Talarczyk not only directs "Heritage" but will also star as Kalman Jakobi (alternating with Jerzy Walczak). In Warsaw, Talarczyk can be seen in Szczepan Twardoch's monodrama "Bull" at the Studio Theatre. He is the director of the Silesian Theatre in Katowice.
