Jewish Dog

Spektakl

Żydowski Pies

In a certain place (52°38'16.9"N 22°03'09.9" E), where the meadows were covered with lush, soft grass, and the greenest woods gleamed beyond the horizon, there was a little cottage. In this little cottage lived a little man. The little man had a soul. He had a soul because he was human. Along the cottage ran railroad tracks. Trains passed every day. The little man would then go out in front of the cottage and flip the switch to make the trains go the right way. He had a special device for this, commonly called a manual adjuster.

One day the little man saw a large, dying dog near the cottage and thought it was just a dog. He looked into the dog’s eyes. He looked and felt naked, and then he started to think.

What does it mean, “to be a dog among humans.” What about Others other than humans? What can our attitude to animals say about us? You will probably ask, it depends on what kind of animals.

What was the human fate, into which the dog born on the 31st of March 1935 on the carpet of a house from which everyone was thrown out because they had a bad background was entangled? Fortunately, the dog had good papers.

If we manage to see a face in an animal, will we then hear “Thou shalt not kill?”

What if we decided that a person is an animal, or that an animal is just a person?

And really, it's all just the people’s talk anyway. A thing about the banality of evil.

The script is based on Asher Kravitz's book “Jewish Dog.”

“In 2022, in cooperation with the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Theater Academy in Warsaw, the Jewish Theater launched a new project called BIMA – Youth Stage.
